A native Detroiter and lifelong Tigers fan, Mike’s first Tigers game was in 1977 when rookie Jack Morris pitched against the Milwaukee Brewers at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers won the game — barely.Rightfielder Mickey Stanley’s over-the-wall catch with two out in the top of the ninth preserved the victory. And thus Mike was hooked. Since then he’s been lucky enough to attend a bevy of memorable games at Tiger Stadium

Three for Thursday
Sitting in a Cave Creek, Ariz., coffee shop waiting for an oil change, enduring the Valley’s slowest Internet connection and delighting in the Tigers’ off-day today.
The break will give me plenty of time to stew about the White Sox series. Is it just me or did you also think that the Tigers had at […]

Game 101: Sweaty Sweep
The Score: Tigers 7 - Royals 1
The Gist: Armando Galarraga was nearly perfect — and for six innings he was. In his seven innings pitched he fanned seven and didn’t allow a baserunner until yielding three singles and a walk in the seventh, but he was downright dominant in raising his record to 8-4. Placido […]
Game 99: Ex-Zach-ly
ESPN highlights available here.
The Score: Tigers 19 - Royals 4
The Gist: Awesome: Zach Miner (6 IP, 0 R, 3 singles, 1 BB, 1 K), Miguel Cabrera (5 for 6, 6 RBI), Matt Joyce (4 for 6, 5 RBI and a homer), Carlos Guillen (3 for 4, 5 runs), Curtis Granderson (3 for 5, 1 BB, […]
Tigers History Notes
If you watched the FSN Detroit broadcast of the Tigers-Orioles game on Sunday, you likely heard the answer to the AFLAC trivia question:
On this date in 1958, Jim Bunning of the Tigers pitched a 3-0 no-hitter over the Red Sox and fans 12. Only two walks and a hit batsman mar Bunning’s performance as he […]
Game 98: Two Kinds of Heat
The Score: Tigers 5 - Orioles 1
The Gist: Justin Verlander dominated — 8.2 IP, three hits, three walks, three strikeouts — and Magglio Ordonez and Marcus Thames went yard to lead the Tigers to a series split against the pesky Orioles. Brandon Inge made the play of the week, if not the year, for the […]
Game 97: Luke Scott Fatigue
The Score: Orioles 11 - Tigers 10
The Gist: The Tigers were up 6-0. Again they couldn’t hold pile on until it was too late. Not sure if tacking on three runs counts as “piling on”, though. Nate Robertson was awful — 2.1 IP, 8 hits, 7 ER (but no walks) — and Placido Polanco had […]
On This Date in 2000
The Tigers purchase the contract of first baseman Hal Morris from the Reds.
Morris played in 40 games for Detroit and hit .311 with one home run and eight RBI. He retired at the end of the 2000 season.
I’d forgotten what a great hitter Morris was for the Reds; he’s got a .304 career average.
Game 96: Six Straight Curveballs
The Score: Orioles 7 - Tigers 4
The Gist: Armando Galarraga gave up two, two-strike home runs and Bobby Seay refused to throw anything but a breaking ball to Luke Scott and the Tigers fell back to the .500 mark. The Tigers weren’t suffering from a lack of baserunners. In fact, they had bases loaded with […]
Game 95: Tightrope Walking
ESPN highlights available here.
The Score: Tigers 6 - Orioles 5
The Gist: Gary Sheffield went yard (almost twice), as did Marcus Thames and Brandon Inge, and Kenny Rogers pitched just good enough to win the opening game of the four-gamer against the Orioles. Magglio Ordonez went 1 for 5 in his return from the DL. In […]

Breaking: Mich. Senators Secure $4 Million Earmark for Tiger Stadium
At last some good (possible) news for those who want to save part of Tiger Stadium.
According to a news release on Michigan Senator Carl Levin’s Senate Web site:
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) today announced the inclusion of $13,500,000 for Michigan transportation and community outreach projects in the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and […]
Who Said It?
“I know we’ve played over 90 games, but I still don’t know what kind of team we are. We’ve had spurts where we’ve played really well. We’ve had spurts where we’ve played really bad. But I think the pieces are here.”
Surprisingly, that’s not a quote from anyone in the Tigers organization, though it most certainly […]
Randy Smith, Act III?
Craig Calcaterra, a.k.a Shyster, links to old friend Danny Knobler’s post from Sunday with this headline:
Ex-Tigers exec Smith another contender in Seattle GM hunt:
Then there’s that other name that circulated through the baseball world this week: Randy Smith.
Smith hasn’t been heard from much since he was fired six years ago after a mostly unsuccessful run […]

Matt Ginter?
How bad is it going for the Indians? Former Tiger Matt Ginter was recalled from Triple-A to start against the Rays on Saturday night — and he won!
That’s one more win than he had for the Tigers in 2005.

Just found the MLB Hub site, and happy to see that my favorite blog, Shea Nation, is the Mets' site ...
